12R24 MEMBER LIFE SAVING AWARD

Life-Saving certificate

Locai12R24 member, Bill Garvie, received a Life-Saving certificate for his part in saving a marathon runner's life near the finish line of the "Road2Hope Hamilton Half" marathon ran on November 3/2014.

The runner was an experienced marathoner who has run many races which included many Boston marathon runs. He was running with his daughter who was in front of him and the next thing he remembers is waking up two days later in the Hamilton General Hospital. It was his first ever " DNF" and he is well aware that the odds were against him to survive but for the quick thinking and helpful volunteers who stepped up.

Paramedics who arrived on the scene very quickly lauded the efforts of the " quick-thinking" bystanders. When they arrived the bystanders and volunteers were performing first aid on the runner and they credited the volunteers with saving the 50 yr old's life.

Well done Bill and congratulations from your President Robert Edwards, 12R24's executive and all your sisters and brothers of the Local.
